What a hotel website needs to sell direct

Eight elements that decide whether a visit becomes a booking, and why speed matters more than design.

3 min read

Most hotel websites are built to please the owner, not to let someone book from a phone with bad signal on the road. These are the eight elements that actually move the needle.

1. It loads in under two seconds

More than half your visits come from a phone and leave if it lags. Compressed WebP photos, no heavy templates, no five animation plugins. Speed is the first design element.

2. Visible prices

A hotel site without prices forces people to write just to learn the basics, and loses anyone who is only comparing. Show the starting rate, what is included and the season.

More than half the visits arrive like this: from a phone.

3. WhatsApp one tap away

A fixed button with a pre-filled message based on the page the visitor is on. If they are looking at the suite, the message should say the suite. And someone has to answer.

4. Real photos, well ordered

One per room type, with the real view, the bed and the bathroom. No wide-angle that makes small rooms look big: you pay for that later in reviews.

5. How to get here, properly

Map, travel time from the airport or bus terminal, whether you need a 4×4, whether there is a transfer and what it costs. In destinations like La Guajira or the Sierra, this is the most visited page after rooms.

6. Clear policies

Check-in, check-out, cancellation, deposit, pets, children. Two lines each. They prevent arguments and cut the message load.

The social proof you already have, placed where it shows.

7. Social proof

Google rating, recent reviews, guest photos. What you already have, placed where it can be seen.

Speed is measured, not debated.

8. Measurement from day one

Analytics and pixel installed, click-to-WhatsApp and booking events. Without this you cannot advertise properly or know which page brings guests.

What about a booking engine?

If you sell more than 30 room-nights a month through your own channels, it is worth it. Below that, a well-run WhatsApp flow converts better and costs less: a conversation resolves doubts a form cannot.

One page per intent, built to load fast.

The page structure that works

A hotel does not need twenty pages. It needs six, done well:

  1. Home: what it is, where it is, starting price, WhatsApp button and three photos that sell.
  2. Rooms: one card per type, with photos, capacity, what is included and price.
  3. How to get here: the most consulted page in hard-to-reach destinations.
  4. Plans or tours: what you sell beyond the night, where the margin is.
  5. FAQ: the ten real doubts that arrive on WhatsApp.
  6. Contact: WhatsApp, phone, location and hours.

Minimum SEO, without overthinking

  • One title per page including the place: “Beachfront hotel in Palomino”, not “Home”.
  • A 150-character description that invites the click.
  • Clean URLs.
  • Hotel structured data: address, starting price, rating.
  • Photos with descriptive file names and alt text.
  • Internal links between rooms, plans and how to get here.

What to measure from day one

Visits per page, where they come from, and above all clicks on the WhatsApp button. That number tells you whether the site is selling. If a page gets lots of visits and no clicks, check the price, the photos or the clarity of the offer; if it gets clicks and no bookings, the problem is the conversation.

That is how we build websites: fast, with prices, WhatsApp integrated and measuring from day one.
